Background: So Ray and I are planning a group cruise after the wedding*.

The boat apparently has a Renaissance theme and has a lot of renaissance art around the ship. This of course means that there are some nipples on display around the ship (in paintings of course, there isn't a Nipple Gallery on the Aft Lido deck). What I find hilarious are the reviews of the ships where people are apparently really bothered by the art.

For example:

The Ship has a very dark feel to it. It didn't give you that happy want to have fun feeling. There's naked art all over the ship. If your into that type of art then you wont mind. Me and my Husband found a lot of the art quite disturbing. Maybe we were reading too much into it, trying to figure out what the painting and statues meant. They had statues of a man lying on top of a dolphin in the ceiling of the ship and next to that statue was a mermaid. and that scene repeated throughout the ceiling of the buffet dining room. My husband thought that maybe it meant that the man had sex with the dolphin and that's how they got mermaids. I don't know but either way the decor left a lot to be desired.

I don't get it, there are nipples (and apparently a penis on the status of David) on display. You see these things in the mirror every day. It isn't the end of the world.

I just know that I'm going to be disappointed if it isn't all nudity all the time on the walls of the ship. ;)

Before I get started this isn't being posted as a way to start drama but more as a request for others' thoughts. Also this isn't about any specific person but more a brain dump.

Ray and I are currently building our wedding guest list. While looking at some of the names I am torn. I like some of these people and would consider them acquaintances but friends? One group of them I talk with occasionally online but it almost always seems to be one way, I comment on their things or engage them in conversation but never the reverse. I like these people but I wouldn't say I am close friends with them. The problem is that others who are going to be invited to the wedding are close friends with them. I guess the big problem is that I have really no way to judge the level of my current friendship with them. If it was three or more years ago the answer would be different however I just don't seem to be in their life(or them in mine).

The other factor that is playing in my mind us my semi-annual parties. Since I host parties about two times a year(and have so for a few years) you would think that I'd be visited by at least people who are in driving distance. But it seems that despite repeated invites they haven't shown up. Should I take this as a sign that they have moved on and it is safe to put them on the don't invite list?

I understand that over time people grow apart and I am not bothered by that at all but for a major life event like this it is really hard to draw the line. I'd like to invite the world but my budget just cant take it.

Follow up thought: I've been dating ray for almost 2 years now and some of these people have never met him. What does it say about our friendship if they are a reasonable drive and haven't met him?

Thoughts? When is it ok to not invite someone?

Holy shit May. 8th, 2011 @ 07:24 pm
So two weekends ago I had a big party. According to the invite this was my standard spring party but really I had it so I could make an annoucement.

There is something depressing about getting the "It's time to check-in" e-mail when you aren't home from the previous flight.

Anyone want to meet up in Orlando or run the KKC with me in Raleigh?

Last.FM Dec. 24th, 2010 @ 12:05 pm
So recently I've been listening to last.fm via the xbox for music via my TV.

I'm a big fan of the music selection and it shows photos of the band so it is great for a party. In addition to showing photos it lets you cycle thru the photos. There is one unfortunate side effect. It seems that every time that last.fm is playing it turns into a discussion of which guys and girls are hot.

For example I'd do all of the guys in Ra Ra Riot and all but one of the guys in Tokyo Police club.

This is unlike Music Choice which I swear chooses the ugliest possible photos of the artists.

I'm kinda here.

Not really but kinda. I've been given an impossible task at work as a stretch assignment. Work is crazy but I love it.

Otherwise life is good.

I hear a bunch of y'all are in MD this weekend. ;)
» Today's thought question....
We've had a few false alarms in the complex here and so I've spent a bit of time recently wondering this.....

If there was a fire in your house what would you grab on your way out.

When I first heard the alarm go off I was in bed so I basically threw pants on, grabbed my wallet, keys, cell phone and headed out the door.

What would you grab on the way out if your house was on fire?

What I think is that the F-word is basically just a convenient nasty-sounding word that we tend to use when we would really like to come up with a terrifically witty insult, the kind Winston Churchill always came up with when enormous women asked him stupid questions at parties. -- Dave Barry

For all I know, by the time this book is published my view of the Soviet regime may be the generally accepted one. But what use would that be in itself? To exchange one orthodoxy for another is not necessarily an advance.
